COMMUNITY FOUNDATION BOARD GIVES TO EARN $100,000 ENGAGEMENT GRANT
Muncie, Ind. – The Community Foundation of Muncie and Delaware County, Inc. received a $100,000 grant as part of the seventh phase of Lilly Endowment Inc.’s Giving Indiana Funds for Tomorrow (GIFT VII) community foundation initiative. This unrestricted grant can be used for any charitable purposes The Community Foundation chooses.
As part of this GIFT VII grant opportunity, each community foundation that achieved 100 percent board member giving during the period from January 1, 2019, through June 30, 2020, was eligible to receive an unrestricted grant of $100,000 per county served. This grant is in recognition of the important role that the community foundation’s board of directors plays both in leading the foundation and serving their communities.
With the announcement of this grant opportunity, the Board of Directors of The Community Foundation of Muncie and Delaware County established The Board of Director’s Fund to honor the commitment of time, talent, and treasure of current and former board members. The Board Engagement Grant will fund this newly established fund along with the gifts and pledges from current and former board members. The new named unrestricted endowment fund will serve as an operating fund.
“The Board of Directors of The Community Foundation has always been engaged and generous. When Lilly Endowment Inc. announced the opportunity to earn this Engagement Grant based on board giving, all of the board members quickly stepped up,” said Kelly K. Shrock, president of The Community Foundation of Muncie and Delaware County. “This funding will support continued community activity by The Community Foundation.”

Lilly Endowment Inc. is an Indianapolis-based private philanthropic foundation created in 1937 by J.K. Lilly, Sr. and his sons Eli and J.K. Jr. through gifts of stock in their pharmaceutical business, Eli Lilly and Company. Although the gifts of stock remain a financial bedrock of the Endowment, it is a separate entity from the company, with a distinct governing board, staff, and location. In keeping with the founders’ wishes, the Endowment supports the causes of community development, education, and religion. The Endowment funds significant programs throughout the United States, especially in the field of religion. However, it maintains a special commitment to its founders’ hometown, Indianapolis, and home state, Indiana.
