Autumn Gable is the recipient of the 2020 Burris Class of 1949 Angie Wilson Scholarship.
This scholarship is awarded in the memory of Angie Wilson, a favorite teacher of the Burris Class of 1949. Miss Wilson began her teaching career in 1907 and joined the Ball State Teachers College faculty in 1932 with an assignment to the recently opened Burris Laboratory School where she taught social studies until she retired in 1954. Miss Wilson also served as a faculty advisor to the Burris Student Council and a class sponsor. Members of the class of 1949 described Miss Wilson as fearless, loyal, preserving, demanding and inspiring. She was popular among her students while demanding the highest standards.
The Burris Class of 1949 established the scholarship to honor the memory of Angie Wilson and to encourage others to inspire future students while striving to become the guiding spirit that they were privileged to know as their teacher and mentor. The scholarship recognizes a graduating senior who has excelled in academic work at Burris Laboratory School and intends to become a teacher upon completion of their college degree.
Autumn, the daughter of Wendy Gable and Scott Gable, plans to attend Franklin College, where she will study elementary education.
