Alexis Quirk is a recipient of the Gary W. Addison Scholarship, the Max V. and Nellie C. Creviston Scholarship, and the Dr. William J. McNabney and Thelma V. McNabney Memorial Scholarships.
The Gary W. Addison Scholarship Fund was created by Gary Addison, a former teacher in the Muncie Community School system. Noting a shortage of qualified students becoming teachers, Addison established the scholarship that is awarded to a graduating senior from Delaware County with a 3.0 G.P.A. or higher planning to major in K-12 education. Special consideration is given to applicants based on academic ability, citizenship, community service, and extracurricular activities. This scholarship is designed for the student who has gone “above and beyond” in his or her academic studies outside the classroom and has not received other major scholarship awards.
The Max V. and Nellie C. Creviston Scholarship is a four-year renewable scholarship awarded to graduates of Cowan Jr./Sr. High School who wish to attend a post-high school institution. This scholarship honors Max V. Creviston and Nellie Catharine Creviston. Eight of the Creviston’s nine children and many of their grandchildren graduated from Cowan Jr./Sr. High School.
The Dr. William J. McNabney and Thelma V. McNabney Memorial Scholarship is awarded to Delaware County college-bound seniors and provides a four-year renewable award for undergraduate study. In selecting recipients, consideration is given to moral character, academic ability, extracurricular activities, civic responsibility, and the potential for leadership and future success.
Alexis, a senior at Cowan Jr./Sr. High School, plans to attend Ball State University to study elementary education. She is the daughter of Scott and Michelle Quirk.
