Town of Gaston Endowment Fund at The Community Foundation grants $4,500 to Two Organizations

The Community Foundation of Muncie and Delaware County, Inc., through the Town of Gaston Endowment Fund, is awarding a grant totaling $4,500 to two organizations serving the residents of Gaston.

Gaston Lions Club has been awarded $2,000 to support facility updates. This grant will support the remodel of the Cook Shack at Gaston Lions Club Park.

Gaston Volunteer Fire Department has been awarded $2,500 for technology upgrades. This grant will allow the fire department to replace obsolete radio pagers with new personnel alerting equipment.

The Town of Gaston Endowment Fund was established in 2012 by Betty Jane Clark Carter, a longtime Gaston resident who saw a need in her community. The fund supports projects and programs that benefit the residents of the Town of Gaston and Harrison and Washington Townships. Betty hoped that the establishment of the fund would set an example for others to give back as they were able. A committee comprised of area residents review applications each year and makes recommendations for grants to the Board of Directors of The Community Foundation. Applications are accepted annually on May 1. The existence of this fund guarantees a steady stream of income to fund worthwhile projects in the Gaston area for years to come.

The Community Foundation of Muncie and Delaware County, Inc. is a publicly supported philanthropic institution governed by a volunteer board of local citizens. The Foundation manages contributions donated by individuals, businesses, and corporations as a permanent community endowment. Grants to nonprofits from these funds benefit the community. More than $57 million has been awarded to enrich the lives of Muncie and Delaware County residents.
