Our COVID-19 Response

Updated: 04/29/2020

During this unprecedented time, The Community Foundation is exploring opportunities to support the residents of Muncie and Delaware County. We will continue to serve our community and enhance the quality of life for Muncie and Del0aware County today, through the COVID-19 pandemic, and always.

We will provide appropriate financial support. We have been in regular communication with nonprofit organizations vital to the COVID-19 response to determine if there are opportunities for aid. The Board of Directors will continue to evaluate funding priorities related to public health as more information about this very fluid situation becomes available. Our overall response to the COVID-19 pandemic will have three phases:

EMERGENCY PHASE: ADDRESSING THE NEEDS TODAY

We are providing support to nonprofits to help residents now. We are working alongside other community funders and government entities to stay informed and connected to the emergent needs of the community. We continue to have conversations with nonprofit organizations serving our community and are providing funding to ensure they can be effective during the pandemic.

RECOVERY PHASE: RETURNING TO A STATE OF WELL-BEING AND STRENGTH

We will provide support to nonprofits so they may regain control and find their momentum again, bridging the gap between emergent needs and resilience for the sector. We will seek to bring comfort and hope through support of our nonprofit community that ensures quality of life and quality of place options remain for all residents that live, work, learn and play in Delaware County.

RESILIENCE PHASE: CREATING STABILITY FOR THE FUTURE

We will encourage nonprofits to find ways to plan, prepare, and strengthen their organizations through a new initiative focused on the holistic health of nonprofit effectiveness. Through a collaborative approach, we can guide nonprofits to find the resilience and confidence needed to tackle future challenges with strength and sustainability.

We will continue to award competitive grants and scholarships. Our competitive grantmaking, including our scholarship process, moved online several years ago. We will continue these processes, ensuring that our community organizations have the resources they need to continue operations and programming, and our graduating seniors will have funds for college in the fall.

We will provide a way for the community to help. You can help respond to the COVID-19 pandemic in Delaware County with a gift to The Unrestricted Fund of The Community Foundation. The Unrestricted Fund provides the Foundation with the flexibility to respond to Delaware County's most pressing needs. From now through June 30, 2020, all gifts to The Unrestricted Fund of The Community Foundation will be available for immediate grantmaking.

Rest assured, our continued response will be fluid to enable the Foundation to adjust to the ebb and flow of the pandemic and our community’s needs. While it is not business as usual, The Community Foundation will make every effort to serve our community and enhance the quality of life for Muncie and Delaware County today, tomorrow and always.
