2011 Fourth Quarter Competitive Grants
The Community Foundation of Muncie and Delaware County, Inc. has announced that eight grants totaling $59,570 have been awarded to local nonprofit agencies and groups in the Foundation’s fourth and final competitive grant cycle of 2011.
The grants are awarded in five areas of interest: arts and culture, human services, economic development, education, and community betterment.
Fourth quarter grant recipients include:
- Ball State University received $10,000 (from the Edmund F. and Virginia B. Ball Fund) to defray the cost of a join campus-community effort to address the impact of globalization in our community while exploring educational reform. The project also seeks to improve participation in the Muncie Action Plan.
- Daleville Community Library received $4,300 (from the Hamer & Phyllis Shafer Fund) to upgrade two existing computers and purchase two additional computer workstations for library patron use.
- Indiana Youth Institute, Inc. received $3,000 (from the Stefan & Joan Anderson Fund) to support the organization’s efforts to provide nonprofit staff professional development to individuals serving youth in our community through the Youth Worker Cafe programs.
- Muncie Community Schools received $5,000 to support the 2011 Community Christmas Sing.
- Muncie Mission received $5,000 (from the Bassett Family Fund) to defray the cost of a van to pick up donations and purchases as well as transport residents to appointments.
- Planet Earth Singers received $3,500 (from the John & Janice Fisher Fund) to defray the cost of choral concerts featuring a varied repertoire of classical, popular, gospel, and folk music.
- Red-tail Conservancy received $26,770 (partial funding from the KAKATU-David & Joanna Meeks Fund) to purchase equipment to maintain the organization’s newly acquired Munsee Woods, as well as their other nature preserves.
- Ronald McDonald House of Indiana received $2,000 (from the Jeanne & John Smith Fund) to provide lodging assistance to families from Delaware County who stay in the Ronald McDonald House while their children are receiving treatment at Indianapolis-area hospitals.
The Community Foundation of Muncie and Delaware County, Inc. is a publicly supported philanthropic institution governed by a volunteer board of local citizens. The Foundation manages contributions donated by individuals, businesses and corporations as a permanent community endowment. Distributions from these funds are given back to the community in the form of grants to nonprofit organizations and agencies. To date, over $33 million has been awarded to enrich the lives of the residents of Muncie and Delaware County.
The next application deadline is January 13, 2012.
