2011 Third Quarter Competitive Grants
The Community Foundation of Muncie and Delaware County, Inc. has announced that nine grants totaling $96,500 have been awarded to local nonprofit agencies and groups in the Foundation’s third competitive grant cycle of 2011.
The grants are awarded in five areas of interest: arts and culture, human services, economic development, education, and community betterment.
Third quarter grant recipients include:
- College Mentors for Kids, Inc. received $5,000 (from the Bassett Family Fund) to support and expand the mentoring program at Ball State’s chapter of College Mentors for Kids.
- Cornerstone Center for the Artsreceived $20,000 (from the Ed & Virginia Ball Fund) to defray the cost of the organization’s Art Education Program.
- East Central Indiana Chamber Orchestra received $3,000 (from the Stefan & Joan Anderson Fund) to defray the cost of three community concerts.
- First Choice for Women, Inc. received $10,000 (from the Faye Wingate Fund) to support a program for Delaware County teens to education them on sexual health and empower them to make healthy decisions by choosing to remain abstinent until marriage.
- Muncie Children’s Museum, Inc. received $15,000 (from the Morris Youth Fund) to provide funding for the remodeling of Tot Spot, an interactive exhibit for children from birth to five years old.
- Muncie Civic Theatre received $20,000 to defray the cost of fire safety upgrades to the building.
- Muncie-Delaware County Chamber of Commerce received $5,000 to provide workshops at all Delaware County high schools in the 2011-2012 school year to assist high school seniors in completing their Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) forms.
- Second Harvest Food Bank received $15,000 (from the Jeanne & John Smith Fund) to defray the cost of food distribution to food-insecure residents through a drive-thru program.
- Wes-Del Community School Corporation received $3,500 (from the Mary Kate Pingry Fund) to provide support for a community anti-bullying convocation and a character development and leadership program for at-risk 9th graders.
The next application deadline is October 14, 2011.
