The Community Foundation of Muncie and Delaware County, Inc. is proud to announce that Liz Marshall has been awarded the 2011 David Sursa Leadership Award to recognize her years of dedicated service to the Muncie Children’s Museum.

As Founding President, David Sursa blazed the trail for The Community Foundation. His visionary leadership contributed greatly to the success of the Foundation and to the generous support it has provided to our community. The award was established in memory of David Sursa’s outstanding contribution to The Community Foundation. The annual program rewards, recognizes and encourages extraordinary nonprofit leadership by a board member displaying the characteristics and commitment to community expressed by Mr. Sursa during his lifetime.
Marshall was nominated by the Muncie Children’s Museum for her years of leadership and service in various roles over more than three decades. Her leadership as President of the Board at the inception of the Museum helped create a strong foundation on which the Museum has grown. Liz was co-chair of the Museum’s capital campaign to raise funds for the move to the Museum’s current location, and she served as Director of Advancement in the late 1990’s. Currently, she serves on the Museum’s Advisory Board of Directors and is a trusted advisor in the areas of programming and funding strategies. As Mary Slafkosky, Executive Director of the Museum noted in her nomination, “Without her leadership, belief and commitment, Muncie Children’s Museum would not be a cornerstone of the Muncie landscape thirty four years later.”
Liz Marshall was recognized at The Community Foundation’s annual meeting in May, and was presented with the David Sursa Leadership Award at a Muncie Children’s Museum meeting in early June. In her honor and to commemorate her award, a $1,000 grant was made to the Muncie Children’s Museum.
