2010 Fourth Quarter Competitive Grants
Grants totaling $151,826 have been awarded to local nonprofit agencies and groups in the Foundation’s fourth and final competitive grant cycle of 2010.
The grants are awarded in five areas of interest: arts and culture, human services, economic development, education, and community betterment.
Fourth quarter grant recipients include:
- City of Muncie received $11,000 (from the Bassett Family Fund) to defray the cost of renovations at the beach area of Prairie Creek Reservoir to make the area more accessible to individuals with disabilities.
- Community Enhancement Projects, Inc. received $60,000 (from the Green Space on Walnut Fund) to defray the cost of design and construction of Canan Commons and Performance Center on Walnut Street in Downtown Muncie.
- Daleville Community Library received $2,000 (from the Martin and Helen Schwartz Fund) to defray the cost of best-selling books to add to the library’s collection in 2011.
- Delaware County Special Olympics received $5,000 (from the Jane Harrell Buckles Fund) to defray the cost of program expansion including equipment, facility expense, and athlete training.
- Friends of Conley, Inc. received $1,250 (from the Robert P. Bell Education Fund) to defray the cost of programming including tutoring for middle and high school students, the Muncie Kwanzaa Celebration, and a trade career fair.
- Hillcroft Services, Inc. received $3,800 (from the Louisa and Waldo Beebe Named Fund) to defray the cost of transportation equipment necessary to provide community access to clients residing in long-term care health care facilities.
- Monroe Township (Cowan Volunteer Fire Department) received $4,000 to defray the cost of replacing obsolete pagers to notify volunteer responders of an active emergency.
- Muncie Action Plan received $13,776 (from the Hamer and Phyllis Shafer Fund) to provide start-up funding to enable implementation of the public’s 47 recommended actions in the Muncie Action Plan.
- Muncie Civic Theatre Association received $5,000 (from the Gordon and Pam Cox Fund) to defray the cost of renovations to emergency exits in the theatre.
- Muncie Community Schools received $6,000 (from the Mary Kate Pingry Fund) to defray the cost of sound equipment rental, sheet music, and printing for the 2010 Community Christmas Sing.
- Oakville Community Park received $5,000 (from the Community Wellness Programs Fund) to defray the cost of improvements, including paving a basketball court in the community park.
- Second Harvest Food Bank of East Central Indiana received $5,000 to defray the cost of technology upgrades.
- YWCA of Muncie received $30,000 to defray the cost of programming, including providing safe and secure emergency housing for families and children in the community.
The Community Foundation of Muncie and Delaware County, Inc., celebrating its 25th anniversary this year, is a publicly supported philanthropic institution governed by a volunteer board of local citizens. The Foundation manages contributions donated by individuals, businesses and corporations as a permanent community endowment. Distributions from these funds are given back to the community in the form of grants to nonprofit organizations and agencies. To date, over $31 million has been awarded to enrich the lives of the residents of Muncie and Delaware County.
The next application deadline is January 14, 2011. Organizations submitting proposals of $25,000 or greater are encouraged to do so in this first grant cycle of the year.
