Ten grants totaling $79,900 have been awarded to local nonprofit agencies and groups in the Foundation's third competitive grant cycle of 2010.
The grants are awarded in five areas of interest: arts and culture, human services, economic development, education, and community betterment.
Third quarter grant recipients include:
- Animal Rescue Fund (ARF) received $2,000 (from the Gordon and Pam Cox Fund) to defray the cost of the Pet Pals Program, an initiative to pair a homeless ARF animal waiting for adoption with a resident in an assisted living facility in a foster-type relationship.
- Ball State University received $2,275 (from the Jeanne and John Smith Fund) to defray the cost of appropriate footwear to help low-income individuals learn to dress appropriately for the workplace and interview settings.
- City of Muncie received $32,625 to defray the cost of a land bank designed to acquire, maintain, and dispose of blighted structures and lots in the City of Muncie.
- College Mentors for Kids, Inc. received $5,000 to defray the cost of transportation, curriculum, training, and volunteer screening for the organization's mentorship program serving first through eighth graders in Delaware County.
- Cornerstone Center for the Arts received $20,000 to defray the cost of the organization's Art Education Program.
- Daleville Lions Club, Inc. received $1,500 (from the Bassett Family Fund) to defray the cost of a replacement HVAC system in the Daleville Lions Club building.
- East Central Indiana Chamber Orchestra received $3,000 (from the Louisa and Waldo Beebe Fund) to defray the cost of four free concerts.
- Gaston Lions Club received $1,500 (from the Bassett Family Fund) to defray the cost of renovations to the shelter house at the Gaston Lions Club Fairgrounds.
- Muncie Downtown Development Partnership received $10,000 (from the John and Janice Fisher Fund) to support the organization's initiatives to stimulate development of a thriving downtown.
- Youth Opportunity Center received $2,000 (from the Hamer D. and Phyllis C. Shafer Fund) to defray the cost of providing extra-curricular activities and clubs for residents who attend on-grounds school at YOC.
The Community Foundation of Muncie and Delaware County, Inc., celebrating its 25th anniversary this year, is a publicly supported philanthropic institution governed by a volunteer board of local citizens. The Foundation manages contributions donated by individuals, businesses and corporations as a permanent community endowment. Distributions from these funds are given back to the community in the form of grants to nonprofit organizations and agencies. To date, over $31 million has been awarded to enrich the lives of the residents of Muncie and Delaware County.
The next application deadline is October 8, 2010.
