2009 3rd Quarter Competitive Grants Awarded

Nonprofit Agencies awarded $103,725 in competitive grants

The Community Foundation of Muncie and Delaware County, Inc. has announced that 12 grants totaling $103,725 have been awarded to local nonprofit agencies and groups in the Foundation's third competitive grant cycle of 2009.

The grants are awarded in five areas of interest:  arts and culture, human services, economic development, education, and community betterment.

Third quarter grant recipients include: 

  • Ball State University Bowen Center for Public Affairs received $5,000 (from the Gordon and Pam Cox Fund) to defray the cost of research and technical support for the Muncie-Delaware County Government Reorganization Committee. 
  • College Mentors for Kids! Inc. received $2,500 to defray the cost of expansion of the program at Ball State University to serve 150 youth in grades one through eight. 
  • Cornerstone Center for the Arts received $22,525 to defray the cost of scholarships, equipment and supplies, marketing, and printing for the Cornerstone Arts Program. 
  • Daleville Community Library received $1,000 (from the Stefan and Joan Anderson Fund) to defray the cost of software to catalog items in the library collection and monitor member families. 
  • Delaware County Special Olympics received $5,000 (from the Bassett Family Fund) to defray the cost of expansion of the Special Olympics program in Delaware County. 
  • East Central Indiana Chamber Orchestra received $3,000 (from the John and Janice Fisher Fund) to defray the cost of a series of free concerts for the citizens of Muncie and East Central Indiana. 
  • First Choice for Women, Inc. received $10,000 to defray the cost of a program for local teens to educate them on sexual health and empower them to make healthy decisions by choosing abstinence. 
  • Harvest Moon Film Festival received $5,000 (from the Edmund F. and Virginia B. Ball Fund) to defray the cost of the 2009 Harvest Moon Film Festival, a three-day event featuring films from the Midwest. 
  • LEAD-ECI, Inc. received $4,200 to defray the cost of twelve participants from nonprofit organizations in Delaware County attending the fall 2009 leadership development training course. 
  • Minnetrista received $3,000 (from the Ball Corporation Community Betterment Fund) to defray the cost of the third annual Living Lightly Fair held in September 2009. 
  • Muncie-Delaware County Chamber of Commerce received $2,500 (from the Mutual Federal Foundation Fund) to defray the cost of a seminar in partnership with the Bowen Center for Public Affairs to educate citizens about participation in the political process. 
  • Project Leadership Delaware County received $40,000 to defray the cost of an initiative to recruit Delaware County students into the Twenty-first Century Scholars program and mentor them to insure graduation from high school and post-secondary education.

To date, over $30 million has been awarded to improve the lives of the residents of Muncie and Delaware County.

The next application deadline is October 9, 2009.
