Non-Profits Form New Collabration Group

Published Friday, August 29, 2008 by Eunice Whitlock

Times are tough, the needs are great....the ingredients for creative action was born.

On Aug 2nd the first joint group effort proved to be very beneficial.  Representatives from ACTION, Inc, Blood ‘N' Fire, Buley Center, Center Township Trustee, Christian Ministries, Future Choices, Muncie Mission, and Salvation Army pooled their resources together to fill 1,400 backpacks for the annual "free" school supply give-a-way.  The Community Foundation and United Way of Delaware County provided funds to purchase the backpacks.

A question was presented ....What's the name of this newly formed group?  Naming the group had not been discussed, only the services that this group could provide had been on the agenda.  Thus, Hearts and Hands United was created.

Joining forces hasn't meant the loss of individual identities for these not-for-profits, but rather has enhanced them. Group leaders expressed praises in regards to the first join effort.  Instead of duplication of services, one event filled the needs of all attendees.

Hearts and Hands United is currently planning their next event, "Coats Against the Cold."  Additionally a special Christmas event for local families in need is being planned.

An invitation to join the work of Hearts and Hands United is open to other not-for-profit agencies that share common goals for providing assistance to those less fortunate and are willing to put their hands and resources together.  For information, contact any of the directors of the agencies listed above.
