2008 1st Quarter Grants Awarded

 2008 1st Quarter Grants

 The Community Foundation of Muncie and Delaware County, Inc. has announced that 14 grants totaling $432,610 have been awarded to local nonprofit agencies and groups in the Foundation's first competitive grant cycle of 2008.

The grants are awarded in five areas of interest: arts and culture, human services, economic development, education, and community betterment.

First quarter grant recipients include:

  • Blood-N-Fire received $30,000 (from the Gordon & Pam Cox Fund) to defray the cost of renovations to the current kitchen facilities and installation of new kitchen appliances and equipment. The updated facilities will be used to provide over 10,000 meals annually to individuals in need.
  • Cardinal Greenway received $25,000 (partial funding from the Mutual Federal Foundation Fund) to defray the cost of resealing a trailhead parking lot and approximately four miles of asphalt trail.
  • Delaware County Farm Festival received $800 (from the Jane Harrell Buckles Fund) to defray the cost of implementing an educational website launching in conjunction with the 2008 Delaware County Farm Festival.
  • Delaware Advancement Corporation received $100,000 (partial funding from the Ball Corporation Community Betterment Fund) to provide funding for the second year of the Vision 2011 Economic Development Program.
  • Full Circle Arts Co-op received $3,000 (from the Endowment for the Arts) to defray the cost of advertising and promotion of The Launching Pad, a local all-ages venue for music performance and rehearsal.
  • Habitat for Humanity received $35,000 to defray the cost of building one Habitat for Humanity home.
  • Huffer Memorial Children's Center received $40,000 (from the Bassett Family Fund) to defray the cost of renovations at Huffer Memorial Children's Center.
  • Meridian Services Corporation received $7,575 (from the Charles & Claudia Sursa Fund) to defray the cost of 100 scholarships for Delaware County students to participate in the Young Americans Outreach Tour.  The program is a three day event program promoting understanding through arts education and theatrical performance.
  • Muncie Innovation Connector received $50,000 (partial funding from the Economic Development Fund) to defray the cost of moving to a new facility and expansion of current programming.
  • Muncie Mission received $25,000 (from the Hamer & Phyllis Shafer Fund) to provide support for the organization's $3.45 mission capital campaign to build a new homeless rescue shelter.
  • Muncie Parks and Recreation Department received $13,235 (from the John & Janice Fisher Fund) to defray the cost of purchase and installation of equipment for an 18 hole disc golf (Frisbee) course at McCulloch Park.
  • Planet Earth Singers received $3,000 (from the Mary Jane Sursa Fund) to defray the cost of music, accompanist and honoraria, rental of performance space, and publicity and printing for the 2008 season.
  • Second Harvest Food Bank of East Central Indiana received $25,000 to provide support for capital needs of the new food bank facility in Delaware County.
  • United Way of Delaware County received $75,000 (from the Edmund F. & Virginia B. Ball Fund) to provide matching funds for new and increased Leadership Gifts ($1,000 or more) contributed during United Way's 2008 Campaign.

The Community Foundation of Muncie and Delaware County, Inc., established in 1985, is a publicly supported philanthropic institution governed by a volunteer board of local citizens. The Foundation manages contributions donated by individuals, businesses and corporations as a permanent community endowment. Distributions from these funds are given back to the community in the form of grants to nonprofit organizations and agencies. To date, over $27 million has been awarded to improve the lives of the residents of Muncie and Delaware County.

The next application deadline is April 11, 2008.
