- Amy Cullum, Wes-Del High School, was awarded $293 for junior Spanish students to study popular artists from Spain and Mexico. In addition to researching biographical information about their chosen author, each group of students will create a replica of the artwork from the artist. The displays will be shared with middle school students in a museum style format.
- Rozann Schenkel, St. Mary's School, was awarded $170 for seventh grade science students to participate in a unit about how simple machines make work easier. As part of the unit, students will construct pasta cars using at least three simple machines.
- Samara Newnam, Storer Elementary School, was awarded $350 for fifth grade students to create a written journal and memory box about special memories from the school year. The students will write about one special memory from each school day and use the memory boxes to display memorabilia from the 2007-2008 school year.
- Samara Newnam, Storer Elementary School, was awarded $349 for fifth grade students to create a personal scrapbook of their year end field trip to several historic sites. The students will research each site before the trip, photograph the sites visited and report on the sites visited as enrichment to the social studies curriculum.
- Nanette Triplett and Margaret Allen, Delta Middle School, were awarded $142 for seventh grade science students to study the structure and function of cells. Students will create their own plant or animal cell on shrink-art paper. The finished cell models will serve as a lasting reminder of the cell and its structure.
Bell Grants of up to $350 are awarded to teachers with innovative ideas, programs or projects designed to stimulate learning in their students. The next deadline for Bell Grant applications is October 1, 2007.
