2007 1st Quarter Grants Awarded

The Community Foundation of Muncie and Delaware County, Inc. has announced that 12 grants totaling $263,657 have been awarded to local nonprofit agencies and groups in the Foundation's first competitive grant cycle of 2007.

The grants are awarded in five areas of interest:  arts and culture, human services, economic development, education, and community betterment.

First quarter grant recipients include:

  • Cardinal Greenway received $29,237 (from the Ed & Virginia Ball Fund) to defray the cost of a tractor and attachments to be used by Cardinal Greenway and Red-tail Conservancy to maintain their properties.
  • Community Enhancement Projects received $30,000 (from the Ed & Virginia Ball Fund) to defray the cost of a colorful, low maintenance beautification project at the triangle at State Road 332 and Chadam Lane.
  • Daleville Community Library received $3,000 (from the John & Janice Fisher Fund) to defray the cost of two staff computers and two public computers and a printer for library patron use.
  • Delaware County Farm Festival received $1,000 (from the Jane Harrell Buckles Fund) to defray the cost of the 2007 Delaware County Farm Festival.
  • Delaware Advancement Corporation received $100,000 (partial funding from the Economic Development Fund) to provide funding for the first year of the Vision 2011 Economic Development Program.
  • Delaware County Community Corrections received $500 to defray the cost of a 20 hour drug and alcohol education class for local alcohol and drug offenders.
  • Family Services of Delaware County, Inc. received $2,520 (from the Joe & Janet Wilson Fund) to provide capacity-building funds to increase efficiencies in both direct service and administration.
  • Habitat for Humanity received $35,000 to defray the cost of building one Habitat for Humanity home.
  • Huffer Memorial Children's Center received $40,000 (from the Bassett Family Fund) to defray the cost of renovations at Huffer Memorial Children's Center.
  • Muncie Children's Museum received $11,000 (from the Hamer and Phyllis Shafer Fund) to defray the cost of the museum hosting Chagall for Children, an interactive traveling exhibit focusing on the playful and colorful artwork of Marc Chagall.
  • Muncie Public Library received $3,000 (from the Stefan & Joan Anderson Fund) to defray the cost of the library's participation in the National Endowment for the Arts' "The Big Read" project.
  • Take Five Community Outreach received $8,400 (from the Gordon & Pam Cox Fund) to defray the cost of providing personal care and household items to needy residents of Delaware County.

The Community Foundation of Muncie and Delaware County, Inc., established in 1985, is a publicly supported philanthropic institution governed by a volunteer board of local citizens. The Foundation manages contributions donated by individuals, businesses and corporations as a permanent community endowment. Distributions from these funds are given back to the community in the form of grants to nonprofit organizations and agencies. To date, over $25 million has been awarded to improve the lives of the residents of Muncie and Delaware County.

The upcoming grant deadlines are April 13, 2007 and July 13, 2007.  Applications must be received by 4:30 p.m. on the day of the deadline in order to be considered.
