Scholarships 2009

Sarah E. Adams Scholarship
Lindsay M. Snyder, a senior at Delta High School, is the 2009 recipient of the Sarah E. Adams Scholarship.

Awarded to a member of a Delaware County High School girls golf team who has displayed good citizenship and a positive attitude for life, this scholarship is for use while attending an accredited college or university in the State of Indiana.

Snyder, the daughter of Matt and Andrea Snyder, plans to study health sciences and pre-medicine at Purdue University.

Michael Brodhead Scholarship
Carissa Clohessy, a senior at Muncie Central High School, is the 2009 recipient of the Michael Brodhead Scholarship.

This scholarship is awarded to a Delaware County college-bound senior who has overcome a physical disability while achieving a high level of academics and participating in other activities outside the classroom.

Clohessy, the daughter of Mike and Carol Clohessy, plans to study architecture at Ball State University.




E.E. Burgess Scholarship
Andrew Brown and Tarrah Emily McCreary are the 2009 recipients of the E.A. & E.E. Burgess Scholarships.

Brown is a senior majoring in hospitality management with a business administration minor at Ball State University. He is the son of Scott and Kay Brown.

McCreary is a junior majoring in dietetics. She is the daughter of Michael and Mia McCreary.

These scholarships are awarded to graduates of Muncie Central High School or Connersville Senior High School who are pursuing a degree in hospitality and food management, dietetics, dietetics technology or vocational family and consumer sciences education at Ball State University. A minimum GPA of 2.0 is required.







Max V. and Nellie C. Creviston Scholarship
Kirby Campbell and Catherine "Catie" Hamilton are the 2009 recipients of the Creviston Scholarships.

This four-year renewable scholarship is awarded to graduates of Cowan High School who wish to attend a post-high school institution. Preference is given to students entering the field of engineering. This scholarship honors Max V. Creviston and Nellie Cathrine Creviston. Eight of the Creviston's nine children and many of their grandchildren graduated from Cowan High School.

Campbell, the son of Scott and Brenda Campbell, plans to study criminal justice at Ball State University.

Hamilton, the daughter of John and Cristy Hamilton, plans to study pre-medicine at Indiana University.








Delaware Community Schools Scholarship
Jared I. Bullock, Lauren Davis, and Katie Scheidler have been named as 2009 recipients of the Delaware Community Schools Memorial Scholarships.

These scholarships are awarded to seniors at Delta High School who have given evidence of scholarship, diligence, goals, and citizenship conclusive to successful educational goals and productive leadership in the community. The recipients may elect to attend any recognized institute/school of post-high school studies.

Bullock is the son of Jeff and Karen Bullock. He plans to study biomedical engineering or architecture at Washington University in St. Louis.

Davis is the daughter of Tom Davis and Lisa Davis. She plans to study elementary education at Indiana Wesleyan University.

Scheidler is the daughter of Dan and Anne Scheidler. She plans to study natural sciences (pre-med) at Xavier University.











Hurley C. and Fredine (Wynn) Goodall Scholarships
Maria Carter, Angela Saffell, and Sylvia West are the 2009 recipients of the Hurley C. and Fredine (Wynn) Goodall Scholarships.

These scholarships, honoring the former state legislator and his wife, are awarded each year to minority students who are enrolled in the two-year associate program at Ivy Tech State College.

Carter is the mother of two boys and is enrolled in the medical assisting program.

Saffell is very involved in her community and is majoring in Human Services. After graduation she plans to continue her education at Ball State University.

West is a mother of three majoring in Social Services. After graduation she plans to continue her education at Ball State University.




Ollie Mae Hammond Scholarships









Jon Hunter Scholarships
Ashley Trehearne and Samuel Valencic have been named as 2009 recipients of Jon Hunter Memorial Scholarships.

Trehearne, the daughter of Todd and Vicki Trehearne, plans to study nursing at Ball State University.

Valencic, the son of Susan Valencic and Steven Valencic, plans to study mechanical engineering at Purdue University.

The scholarship was established by the family of the late Jon Hunter and is awarded to graduates of Wes-Del High School. Recipients must demonstrate love and dedication to their sport and possess high moral character.






Donald Lee Patton Memorial Scholarship
Casey M. Bigtree is the 2009 recipient of the Donald Lee Patton Memorial Scholarship.

Bigtree, a graduate of Muncie Southside High School, is the son of Melissa R. Workman and Brian J. Bigtree. He plans to attend Indiana University-Purdue University Indianapolis.

In honor of five-time Indiana State Champion Wrestling Coach and former Delta High School Athletic Director Donald Patton, this scholarship is awarded to members of a high school wrestling team who demonstrates love for wrestling and a spirit of winning. To be eligible, students must have at least two years of wrestling involvement at the high school level.



J Scholarship

Alice Miriam Kitselman Scholarship
Carly Ann Townsend, a senior at Burris Laboratory School, is the 2009 recipient of the Alice Miriam Kitselman Scholarship.

This scholarship is awarded to a graduate of Burris Laboratory School who has shown the desire and ability to pursue a career in medicine or surgery.

Townsend, the daughter of Marion Townsend and Terri Townsend, plans to study nursing at Bellarmine University.


Lilly Endowment Community Scholarship
The Community Foundation has selected the following two Delaware County seniors to receive 2009 Lilly Endowment Community Scholarships.

Annessa Mosier, a senior at Yorktown High School, plans to study international affairs and broadcast journalism at Taylor University. She is the daughter of Jeff and Kay Mosier.

Lindsay M. Snyder, a senior at Delta High School, plans to major in health sciences and pre-medicine at Purdue University. She is the daughter of Matt and Andrea Snyder.

Annessa and Lindsay will receive full tuition to the Indiana colleges of their choice and an $800 yearly stipend for required books and equipment.

In selecting Lilly Endowment Community Scholars, consideration is given to student activities and achievements, community and civic service, academic ability and potential for leadership. After the field of school nominees was narrowed to two, the finalists' names were submitted to Independent Colleges of Indiana, Inc. (ICI) for the selection of the recipients.

ICI is a nonprofit corporation that represents 31 regionally accredited degree granting, nonprofit, private colleges and universities in the state.

The scholarships are the result of a statewide Lilly Endowment initiative to help Hoosier students reach higher levels of education. Indiana ranks among the lowest states in the percentage of residents over the age of 25 with a bachelor's degree. There were 216 scholarships awarded statewide. Since 1998, 44 Delaware County students have been named Lilly Endowment Community Scholars.


Grace K. Maring Scholarships
Kaitlin L. Roscoe and Bryce Cook are the 2009 recipients of the Grace Maring Scholarships.

Cook plans to study exercise science or sports medicine. He is the son of Bryan and Sharyl Cook.

Roscoe plans to study veterinary technology at Purdue University. She is the daughter of Rick and Pam Roscoe.

These scholarships are awarded to Wapahani High School students residing in Perry Township. Recipients may elect to attend any recognized post-high school institution.




McDonald's Restaurants of Delaware and Madison Counties Scholarships







Dr. William J. McNabney and Thelma V. McNabney Memorial Scholarship
Kassandra Pettigrew, a graduate of Muncie Southside High School, is the 2009 recipient of the Dr. William J. McNabney and Thelma V. McNabney Memorial Scholarship. Pettigrew, the daughter of Mrs. Cynthia Pettigrew and the late George R. Pettigrew, plans to study pre-veterinary science at Purdue University.

This scholarship is awarded to a Delaware County college-bound senior and provides $5,000 per year for four years of undergraduate study. In selecting the recipient, consideration is given to moral character, academic ability, extracurricular activities, civic responsibility, and the potential for leadership and future success.


Arthur D. and Josephine M. Robling Scholarships
The following students have been named as recipients of the second annual Arthur D. and Josephine M. Robling Scholarships. Recipients must be residents of Delaware County, be of good moral character and display good citizenship, and must have maintained at least a 2.5 cumulative grade point average in high school.

Jared I. Bullock, a graduate of Delta High School, plans to study biomedical engineering or architecture at Washington University in St. Louis. He is the son of Jeff and Karen Bullock.

Carissa Clohessy, a graduate of Muncie Central High School, plans to study architecture at Ball State University. She is the daughter of Mike and Carole Clohessy.

Natalie Nicole Dudley, a graduate of Wapahani High School, plans to study in the field of math or science at Ball State University. She is the daughter of Brian and Christine Dudley.

Erin Ashley Frick, a graduate of Heritage Hall Christian School, plans to study childcare ministries at Bob Jones University. She is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Doug Frick.

Karissa D. Gors, a graduate of Muncie Southside High School, plans to study pre-medicine at Anderson University. She is the daughter of Tricia Porter.

Kelsey Jones, a graduate of Yorktown High School, plans to study engineering at Valparaiso University. She is the daughter of Dr. Steve Jones and Jan Jones.

Gabriela Mounayar, a graduate of Burris Laboratory School, plans to study art at Ball State University. She is the daughter of Michel Mounayar and Olga Mounayar.

Elizabeth McManus, a graduate of Daleville Junior/Senior High School, plans to study psychology at Ball State University. She is the daughter of Gary and Deborah McManus.

Derek Sprunger, a graduate of the Indiana Academy for Science, Mathematics and Humanities, plans to study finance and sports management.

Stephanie Westfall, a graduate of Cowan Junior/Senior High School, plans to study nursing at Purdue University. She is the daughter of Steve and Toni Westfall.

Brittney N. Williams, a graduate of Wes-Del High School, plans to study telecommunications/public relations at Ball State University. She is the daughter of Allen Williams and Sherrie Williams.












The Community Foundation Scholarships
The following students have each been awarded a $500 scholarship from The Community Foundation to recognize their achievements and to honor them as nominees for the Lilly Endowment Community Scholarship.

Jerica Barlow of Muncie Central High School plans to study engineering at Purdue University. She is the daughter of Jerry and Brenda Barlow.

Brianna Kaitlyn Beaty of Muncie Southside High School plans to tourism, conventions and event management at Indiana University-Purdue University Indianapolis. She is the daughter of James and Angela Beaty.

Adam Bretz of Delta High School plans to study engineering at Purdue University. He is the son of Erick and Catherine Bretz.

Jared I. Bullock of Delta High School plans to attend Washington University in St. Louis. He is the son of Jeff and Karen Bullock.

Griffin Ray Corn of Daleville High School plans to study economics at Ball State University. He is the son of Andrew and Kip Corn.

Jeffrey Edward Dick of Muncie Central High School plans to study aerospace engineering at Purdue University. He is the son of Stephen Jeffery and Jennifer Kay Dick.

Natalie Nicole Dudley of Wapahani High School plans to study math or science at Ball State University. She is the daughter of Brian and Christine Dudley.

Catie Hamilton of Cowan Junior/Senior High School plans to major in pre-medicine at Indiana University. She is the daughter of John and Christy Hamilton.

Yenling Ho of Muncie Central High School plans to study biology at Indiana University. He is the son of Taiping Ho and Chunshan Ho.

Hannah Hollowell of Muncie Southside High School plans to attend Ball State University. She is the daughter of John and LaDonna Hollowell.

Carmen Huffman of Wes-Del High School plans to study hospitality and tourism management at Purdue University. She is the daughter of Brian Huffman and Tyann Huffman.

Kelsey Jones of Yorktown High School plans to study engineering at Valparaiso University. She is the daughter of Steve and Jan Jones.

Eun Kim of Muncie Central High School plans to study mathematics at Indiana University. She is the daughter of Chaeyoung Kim Lee and Heesoo Kim.

Lainey L. Neal of Muncie Southside High School plans to study mathematics education at Ball State University. She is the daughter of the late Tommy Neal.

Kassandra Pettigrew of Muncie Southside High School plans to study pre-veterinary medicine at Purdue University. She is the daughter of Cynthia Pettigrew and the late George Pettigrew.

Kevin Pickerill of Burris Laboratory School plans to study engineering at Purdue University. He is the son of Brian Pickerill and Ellen Sandman.

Braden Pretzsch of Yorktown High School plans to study business at the University of Evansville. He is the son of Scott and Kathy Pretzsch.

Kyle Thompson of Wapahani High School plans to study pre-medicine at Olivet Nazarene University. He is the son of Dennis and Melinda Thompson.



Rozelle-Camplin Scholarships
Amanda Christine Glidden is the 2009 recipient of the Rozelle-Camplin Scholarship.

Glidden, the daughter of Timothy and Malinda Glidden, plans to study mathematics at Purdue University.

This scholarship is awarded to a graduate of Daleville High School. Selection is based on scholarship, community service, citizenship and participation in school activities.

George and Nelda Van Laningham Scholarship


Wingate Scholarship
Alicia Jenise Ewing is the 2009 recipient of the Wilfred W. Wingate Scholarship.

This scholarship is awarded to a junior or senior nursing student at Ball State University. Recipients must have graduated from a Delaware County High School and preference is given to those students who intend to practice their profession in Delaware County.

Ewing, the daughter of Yvonne Hendricks, plans to continue her study of nursing at Ball State University.

Yorktown Lions Club, Inc. Scholarships
Kyle James Mosier is the 2009 recipient of the Yorktown Lions Club, Inc. Scholarship.

This scholarship is awarded to a Yorktown High School graduate who maintains an 8.0/12.0 GPA and displays good citizenship.

Mosier, the son of Jeffrey and Kay Mosier, plans to study agricultural engineering at Purdue University.
