Scholarships 2008

Sarah E. Adams Scholarship
Kacey N. Bennett, a graduate of Muncie Southside High School, is the 2008 recipient of the Sarah E. Adams Scholarship.

Awarded to a member of a Delaware County High School girls golf team who has displayed good citizenship and a positive attitude for life, this scholarship is for use while attending an accredited college or university in the State of Indiana.

Bennett, the daughter of Adam Bennett and Kimberly Townsend, plans to attend Franklin College.

Michael Brodhead Scholarship
Tessa Barnard, a graduate of Wapahani High School, is the 2008 recipient of the Michael Brodhead Scholarship.

This scholarship is awarded to a Delaware County college-bound senior who has overcome a physical disability while achieving a high level of academics and participating in other activities outside the classroom.

Barnard, the daughter of Lynn and LeeAnn Barnard, plans to study telecommunications at Ball State University


E.E. Burgess Scholarship
Andrew Brown is the 2008 recipient of the E.A. & E.E. Burgess Scholarship. 

Brown is a junior majoring in hospitality management with a business administration minor at Ball State University.  He is the son of Scott and Kay Brown.

This scholarship is awarded to a graduate of Muncie Central High School or Connersville Senior High School who is pursuing a degree in hospitality and food management, dietetics, dietetics technology or vocational family and consumer sciences education at Ball State University.  A minimum GPA of 2.0 is required.


Max V. and Nellie C. Creviston Scholarship
Holly Campbell and Shannon Stamper are the 2008 recipients of the Creviston Scholarship.

This four-year renewable scholarship is awarded to graduates of Cowan High School who wish to attend a post-high school institution.  Preference is given to students entering the field of engineering.  This scholarship honors Max V. Creviston and Nellie Cathrine Creviston.  Eight of the Creviston's nine children and many of their grandchildren graduated from Cowan High School.

Campbell, the daughter of Bruce Campbell and Tina Gibson, plans to study animal science at Purdue University.

Stamper, the daughter of David and Stacy Stamper, plans to attend Ball State University.


Delaware Community Schools Scholarship
Erika Hapner, Elizabeth Marshall, Adam Vaughn, and Justin Wilder have been named as 2008 recipients of the Delaware Community Schools Memorial Scholarships.

These scholarships are awarded to seniors at Delta High School who have given evidence of scholarship, diligence, goals, and citizenship conclusive to successful educational goals and productive leadership in the community. The recipients may elect to attend any recognized institute/school of post-high school studies.

Hapner is the daughter of John and Kim Hapner. She plans to study elementary education at Taylor University.

Marshall is the daughter of Gary and Melanie Marshall. She plans to study chemistry at Indiana University Purdue University Fort Wayne.

Vaughn is the son of Rod and Cindy Vaughn. He plans to study computer science at Ball State University.

Wilder is the son of Teresa Wilder and Doug Wilder. He plans to study computer graphics technology at Purdue University.


Hurley C. and Fredine (Wynn) Goodall Scholarships
Carlita Burchnell and Ike Roscoe are the 2008 recipients of the Hurley C. and Fredine (Wynn) Goodall Scholarships.

These scholarships, honoring the former state legislator and his wife, are awarded each year to financially needy minority students enrolled in the two-year associate program at Ivy Tech State College. 

Burchnell is in her second semester of general studies.  She is actively involved with Teamwork for Quality Living and is involved with the Secret Sisters program through her church.

Roscoe is taking courses in automotive technology.  Upon completing his education, he plans to seek employment with a company that will allow him to use his knowledge and skills to make a difference in the community.

Ollie Mae Hammond Scholarships
Crystal Y. Flye and Tyrone O. Evans have been named the 2008 recipients of the Ollie Mae Hammond Scholarships.

Flye, the daughter of Lanita G. Goins, plans to attend Indiana University.

Evans, the son of Tony Clemens and Georgette Clemens, plans to study art design at Indiana University-Purdue University Fort Wayne.

The scholarship, established by Martin and Helen Schwartz in memory of Ollie Mae Hammond, is awarded to graduating students who are active members of the youth group of Antioch Baptist Church in Muncie.


Jon Hunter Scholarships
Brandon McGuire and Brooklyn Tuttle have been named the 2008 recipients of Jon Hunter Memorial Scholarships.

McGuire, the son of Donnie and Christy McGuire, plans to study education at Indiana University-Purdue University Fort Wayne.

Tuttle, the daughter of Kelly and Susan Tuttle, plans to study interior design at Ball State University.

The scholarship was established by the family of the late Jon Hunter and is awarded to graduates of Wes-Del High School.  Recipients must demonstrate love and dedication to their sport and possess high moral character.




Donald Lee Patton Memorial Scholarship
Andrew Armantrout is the 2008 recipient of the Donald Lee Patton Memorial Scholarship.

Armantrout is the son of Jeff Armantrout and Lori Armantrout.  He plans to study graphic arts at Ball State University.

In honor of five-time Indiana State Champion Wrestling Coach and former Delta High School Athletic Director Donald Patton, this scholarship is awarded to members of a high school wrestling team who demonstrates love for wrestling and a spirit of winning.  To be eligible, students must have at least two years of wrestling involvement at the high school level.

J Scholarship
Grace Baker is the 2008 recipient of the J Scholarship. 

Baker is a sophomore majoring in business marketing at Ball State University.  She is the daughter of Ted and Gail Baker.

This scholarship is awarded to a student from a county high school in Delaware County who is interested in obtaining a business degree from the Ball State University School of Business.

Alice Miriam Kitselman Scholarship
Raquel Keren Zemtsov, a graduate of Burris Laboratory School, is the 2008 recipient of the Alice Miriam Kitselman Scholarship.

This scholarship is awarded to a graduate of Burris Laboratory School who has shown the desire and ability to pursue a career in medicine or surgery.

Zemtsov, the daughter of Alexander Zemtsov and Tali Zemtsov, plans to study political science with a pre-med concentration at Vanderbilt University

Lilly Endowment Community Scholarship
The Community Foundation of Muncie and Delaware County, Inc., has selected the following two Delaware County seniors to receive 2008 Lilly Endowment Community Scholarships. It is estimated that each recipient's total financial award will be $126,853 over four years.

Marisa Brianna Beaty, a senior at Muncie Southside High School, plans to enter the pre-physician assistant program at Butler University. She is the daughter of Betty Kirk and Larry Beaty. She was class president all four years of high school and is Editor-in-Chief of her school newspaper. She also participates in cheerleading, golf, tennis, student government, Muncie Civic Theatre, and the Muncie Mayor's Youth Council.

Jennifer Lynn Nicole Bell, a senior at Muncie Central High School, plans to study biology at Butler University. She is the daughter of Todd Bell and Robin Wright. She is the president of her school's Honor Society and Latin Club. She also participates in numerous athletic and academic teams, drama club, choir, student government, marching band, Key Club, and the Muncie Mayor's Youth Council.

Created in 1998, the Lilly Endowment Community Scholarship Program provides funds for Indiana community foundations to offer four-year undergraduate scholarships to students within the counties they serve. Since 1998, 42 Delaware County students have been named Lilly Endowment Community Scholars.

Scholarships are awarded to two Delaware County residents who will have graduated by the end of June 2008 with a diploma from an accredited Delaware County high school and who have been accepted to pursue a full-time baccalaureate course of study beginning in the fall of 2008 at any accredited public or private college or university in Indiana.

The scholarships provide full tuition, required fees and a special allocation of up to $800 per year for books and required equipment for four years of undergraduate study.

In selecting Lilly Endowment Community Scholars, consideration is given to student activities and achievements, community and civic service, academic ability and potential for leadership.

Grace K. Maring Scholarships
Ashley Lopez and Thomas Cain Priddy are the 2008 recipients of the Grace Maring Scholarships.

Lopez plans to attend Indiana Wesleyan University. She is the daughter of Kenneth and Angela Lopez.

Priddy plans to study manufacturing engineering technology at Purdue University. He is the son of Thomas G. Priddy and Angie D. Priddy.

These scholarships are awarded to Wapahani High School students residing in Perry Township. Recipients may elect to attend any recognized post-high school institution.


McDonald's Restaurants of Delaware and Madison Counties Scholarships
The Community Foundation is proud to announce the 2008 recipients of the McDonalds Restaurants of Delaware and Madison Counties Scholarships.

A. Marie Carroll, a graduate of Burris Laboratory School, is the daughter of Stephen Carroll and Jackie Carroll.  She is studying communications at IUPUI.

Deana Johnson, a graduate of the Indiana Academy for the Sciences, Mathematics and Humanities, is the daughter of Teresa Johnson.  She plans to study business administration at Kettering University.

Amanda K. Parson, a student at International Business College in Fort Wayne, is the daughter of Bill and Sheila Parson.  She is studying to be a registered veterinary technician.

Bradley Puent, a graduate of Yorktown High School, is the son of Kenneth Puent and Beth Puent.  He plans to study film at Columbia College.

Tyler Sheller, a student at Ball State University, is the son of Don and Beverly Sheller.  He is pursuing a degree in psychology.

Awarded from the Robert and Beverly Terhune Fund, these scholarships are given to employees of the Terhune McDonald's restaurants in Delaware or Madison Counties.



Dr. William J. McNabney and Thelma V. McNabney Memorial Scholarship
Bonnie Kaminsky, a graduate of Burris Laboratory School, is the 2008 recipient of the Dr. William J. McNabney and Thelma V. McNabney Memorial Scholarship.

This scholarship is awarded to a Delaware County college-bound senior and provides $5,000 per year for four years of undergraduate study. In selecting the recipient, consideration is given to moral character, academic ability, extracurricular activities, civic responsibility, and the potential for leadership and future success.

Kaminsky, the daughter of Leonard Kaminsky and Mary Kaminsky, plans to study pharmacy at Butler University. She has a 4.0 cumulative G.P.A, is active in student council, volleyball, track and field, Fellowship of Christian Athletes, and has been an active community volunteer.



Arthur D. and Josephine M. Robling Scholarships
Eleven local students have been named as recipients of the first annual Arthur D. and Josephine M. Robling Scholarships. Recipients must be residents of Delaware County, be of good moral character and display good citizenship, and must have maintained at least a 2.5 cumulative grade point average in high school.

Nathaniel Edward Carroll of Daleville High School plans to study business at either Hiram College or the College of Mount St. Joseph. He is the son of Edward Eugene Carroll, Jr. and Patricia Ann Carroll.

Lucas Dwayne Dargo of Delta High School plans to study athletic training at Ball State University. He is the son of Charles and Phyllis Dargo.

Zachary T. Dunsmore of Yorktown High School plans to study pre-medicine at Anderson University. He is the son of Todd and Terri Dunsmore.

Taylor Dybwad of Heritage Hall Christian School plans to study engineering at Cedarville University. He is the son of Steve and Diane Dybwad.

Heather Jackson of Wapahani High School plans to study communications/journalism at Ball State University. She is the daughter of Howard and Sharon Jackson.

Sujoy Phookan of the Indiana Academy for Science, Mathematics, and Humanities plans to enter the accelerated Physician-Scientist Program at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute. He is the son of Gautam Phookan and Ajanta Goswami.

Ryan M. Sells of Cowan High School plans to study electrical engineering technology at Purdue University. He is the son of Ronald J. Sells and Janet S. Sells.

Shelbe Tillman of Muncie Central High School plans to study international studies at Butler University. She is the daughter of Steve Hayden and Ellise Hayden.

Ashley Wallace of Muncie Southside High School plans to study nursing at Ivy Tech. She is the daughter of Robert Wallace and Beth Wallace.

Marissa D. Wilcox of Wes-Del High School plans to study chemical or biological engineering and Purdue University. She is the daughter of Allen and Donna Wilcox.

Sarah Williamson of Burris Laboratory School plans to study veterinary technology at Ivy Tech. She is the daughter of Larry Williamson and Vickie Williamson.


The Community Foundation Scholarships
Eighteen students have each been awarded a $500 scholarship from The Community Foundation to recognize their achievements and to honor them as nominees for the Lilly Endowment Community Scholarship.

Tanya Beckman of Muncie Southside High School plans to study pre-medicine at Ball State University. She is the daughter of Linda Beckman and Richard Beckman.

Page Jayna Ellcessor of Wapahani High School plans to study elementary education at Indiana Wesleyan University. She is the daughter of Rev. Mark and Lisa Ellcessor.

Caitlyn Gerber of the Indiana Academy for Science, Mathematics, and Humanities plans to study computer science at Ball State University. She is the daughter of Charles and Janelle Gerber.

Erika Hapner of Delta High School plans to study elementary education at Taylor University. She is the daughter of John Hapner and Kimberley Hapner.

Bobby Helfst of Delta High School plans to attend the University of Indianapolis. He is the son of Bob and Donna Helfst.

Daniel Hornsby of Yorktown High School plans to study English at Kansas State University. He is the son of Jeff and Peg Hornsby.

James Hsieh of Muncie Central High School is undecided as to his college plans. He is the son of Samuel and Ellen Hsieh.

Haley Inman of Delta High School plans to study pre-medicine/biology at IUPUI. She is the daughter of Tammy Morris and Clint Inman.

Bonnie Kaminsky of Burris Laboratory School plans to study pre-pharmacy at Butler University. She is the daughter of Leonard Kaminsky and Mary Kaminsky.

Mary Elizabeth Karner of Muncie Central High School plans to study nursing at Ball State University. She is the daughter of Rev. Kevin and Maggie Karner.

Ashley Lopez of Wapahani High School plans to attend Indiana Wesleyan University. She is the daughter of Kenneth and Angela Lopez.

Bethany Mann of Muncie Southside High School plans to study elementary education at Ball State University. She is the daughter of Stephen and Barbara Mann.

Hannah E. Maynard of Muncie Central High School plans to study elementary education at Ball State University. She is the daughter of Tamara Reese and Gregory Maynard.

Shad A. Peters of Cowan Junior/Senior High School plans to study mechanical engineering at Purdue University. He is the son of Doug and Dana Peters.

Leah Puckett of Muncie Southside High School plans to study pre-law at Indiana University. She is the daughter of John and Leslie Puckett.

Megan Weisenberger of Yorktown High School plans to study chemistry at Indiana University. She is the daughter of Larry and Leslie Weisenberger.

Marissa Wilcox of Wes-Del High School plans to study chemical engineering at Purdue University. She is the daughter of Allen and Donna Wilcox.

Derrick Wu of Yorktown High School plans to study molecular biology at Northwestern University. He is the son of Howard Wu and Limin Wu.


Rozelle-Camplin Scholarships
Clint Austin Fisher is the 2008 recipient of the Rozelle-Camplin Scholarship.

Fisher, the son of Mike and Dee Chambers and Bruce Fisher, plans to study fitness and sports management at Manchester College.

This scholarship is awarded to a graduate of Daleville High School.  Selection is based on scholarship, community service, citizenship and participation in school activities.


George and Nelda Van Laningham Scholarship
Ashley Wiswell, a senior at Ball State University, is the 2008 recipient of the George and Nelda Van Laningham Scholarship.  Wiswell is the daughter of Doug and Becky Wiswell. The scholarship was established by the Junto Club in memory of George and Nelda Van Laningham and is designed for entrepreneurship students in the Small Business Management/Entrepreneurship Program at Ball State University.

Wingate Scholarship
Sherri Waskom Astemborski is the 2008 recipient of the Wilfred W. Wingate Scholarship.

This scholarship is awarded to a junior or senior nursing student at Ball State University.  Recipients must have graduated from a Delaware County High School and preference is given to those students who intend to practice their profession in Delaware County.

Astembroski, the daughter of Robert L. and Sylverine Waskom, is a graduate of Delta High School.


Yorktown Lions Club, Inc. Scholarships
Erin Brumback and Kelsey Fink are the 2008 recipients of the Yorktown Lions Club, Inc. Scholarships.

These scholarships are awarded to Yorktown High School graduates who maintain an 8.0/12.0 GPA and display good citizenship.

Brumback, the daughter of Michael Brumback and Kimberly Brumback, plans to study psychology at Indiana University.

Fink, the daughter of Jerry and Kimberly Fink, plans to study graphic design at Ball State University.
