Scholarships 2004

E. A. and E. E. Burgess Scholarship
LaMar Byrd, a graduate of Muncie Central High School, is the 2004 recipient of the E.A. & E.E. Burgess Scholarship. This scholarship is in memory of Mr. and Mrs. Burgess and is awarded to a graduate of Muncie Central High School or Connersville Senior High School who is enrolled in Ball State Universityís College of Applied Science and Technology. Byrd is the son of Sammie Byrd and the late Willis Byrd. He plans to study hospitality and food management at Ball State University.

Hurley C. and Fredine (Wynn) Goodall Scholarship
Cherry Scott and Charissa Bynum are this yearís recipients of the Hurley C. and Fredine (Wynn) Goodall Scholarships. These scholarships, honoring the former state legislator and his wife, are awarded each year to financially needy minority students enrolled in the two-year associate program at Ivy Tech State College. Both Bynum and Scott are graduates of Muncie Southside and are pursing degrees in nursing.

"J" Scholarship
Thomas Nelson is this yearís recipient of the "J" Scholarship. The scholarship is awarded to a student from a county high school in Delaware County who is interested in obtaining a business degree from the Ball State University School of Business. 

Rozelle-Camplin Scholarship
Kyle Ballard, a graduate of Daleville High School, is the 2004 recipient of the Kathleen Rozelle-Camplin Scholarship. He is the son of Jon and Brenda Ballard. This scholarship is in memory of Kathleen Rozelle-Camplin and is awarded to a graduate of Daleville High School. Selection is based on scholarship, community service, citizenship, and participation in student activities. Ballard plans to study building construction management at Purdue University.

Van Laningham Scholarship
Katherine Endress, a senior majoring in entrepreneurship at Ball State University, is the 2004 recipient of the George and Nelda Van Laningham Scholarship. She is the daughter of Thom and Cindy Endress. This scholarship was established by the Junto Club in memory of George and Nelda Van Laningham and is designated for entrepreneurship students in the Small Business Management/Entrepreneurship Program at Ball State University. 

Sarah E. Adams Scholarship
Jessi O'Connor, a graduate of Southside High School, is the recipient of this year's Sarah E. Adams Scholarship. She is the daughter of Judy O'Connor and Joe O'Connor. Awarded to a member of a Delaware County High School girls golf team who has displayed good citizenship and a positive attitude for life, this scholarship is for use while attending an accredited college or university in the State of Indiana. O'Connor plans to study elementary education at Ball State
University. 


Michael Brodhead Scholarship
Linda Julian, a graduate of Burris Laboratory School, is the recipient of this year's Michael Brodhead Scholarship. She is the daughter of Cindy Julian and the late Charlie Julian. This scholarship is awarded to a Delaware County High School college-bound senior who has overcome a physical disability while achieving a high level of academics and participating in other activities outside the classroom. Julian plans to attend Ball State University.


Creviston Scholarship

Claire Ranieri, a graduate of Cowan Jr.-Sr. High School, is the 2004 recipient of the Creviston Scholarship. She is the daughter of Dr. and Mrs. Paul Ranieri. This scholarship is awarded to a graduate of Cowan High School who wishes to attend a post-high school institution. This scholarship honors the late Max V. and Nellie Catherine Creviston. Ranieri plans to study theatre and chemistry at Ball State University.


Ollie Mae Hammond Scholarship

André Jones, a graduate of Muncie Central High School, is this year's recipient of the Ollie Mae Hammond Scholarship. He is the son of Howard and Sara Miller and Radford Jones, Jr.. This scholarship was established by Martin and Helen Schwartz in memory of Ollie Mae Hammond and is awarded to graduating students who are active members of the Youth Group of Antioch Baptist Church. Recipients must plan to attend a college, university or business school. Jones plans to attend Indiana University.


Lilly Endowment Community Scholarships

Six students are the 2004 recipients of the Lilly Endowment Community Scholarships.

Lindsey Craig, a graduate of Muncie Central High School, plans to study accounting at Indiana Wesleyan University. She is the daughter of Dan and Barbara Canan and Joe Craig.

Blain Keller, a graduate of Delta High School, plans to study Japanese and Chinese at Valparaiso University. He is the son of Michael and Teresa Keller.

Terri Patterson, a graduate of Delta High School, plans to study pharmacy at Purdue University. She is the daughter of Alan and Margie Patterson.

Elliott Pinegar, a graduate of Muncie Central High School, plans to study elementary education at Butler University. He is the son of Phillip and Joy Pinegar.

Cathryn Richter, a graduate of Delta High School, plans to study pre-law and political science. She is the daughter of Randall and Susan Richter.

Katie Strohm, a graduate of Daleville Jr.-Sr. High School, plans to study Spanish and Latin American Studies at Earlham College or Hanover College. She is the daughter of Bradley and Lynn Strohm.


Grace Maring Scholarships

Three graduates of Wapahani High school are this year's recipients of the Grace Maring Scholarships.

Logan Campbell plans to study engineering at Purdue University. He is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Michael Conn and Mr. and Mrs. Kent Campbell.

Jason Cumings plans to study radiation therapy at Ball State University. He is the son of Lora Plumber and Mike Cumings.

Kyle Smithson plans to study computer science at Ball State University. He is the son of Mark and Candi Smithson.

These scholarships are awarded to Wapahani High School students residing in Perry Township planning to attend any recognized institute/school of post-high school students.


McDonald's Restaurants of Delaware and Madison Counties Scholarships

Five students are the 2004 recipients of the McDonalds Restaurants of Delaware and Madison Counties Scholarships.

  • Lindsay Holliman, plans to attend Ball State University.
  • Joni Hovis, plans to continue her studies at Ball State University.
  • Kristel Smith, plans to continue her studies at Ball State University.
  • Joseph Waters, plans to attend Ball State University.
  • Jason Wentz, plans to attend Indiana University.

Awarded from the Robert and Beverly Terhune Fund, these five $1,000 scholarships are given to employees of the Terhune McDonald's restaurants in Delaware or Madison Counties.


Yorktown Lions Club Scholarships

Three students are recipients of this year's Yorktown Lions Club, Inc., Scholarships:

Kristin Burke plans to attend Indiana University. She is the daughter of Bob and Amy Burke.

Christopher Troxell (picture not available) plans to study physics and philosophy at Purdue University. He is the son of Sharon Burgess and Paul Troxell.

Brian Watters plans to study pre-medicine at Ball State University. He is the son of Rapid and Stephanie Watters.

These scholarships are awarded to Yorktown High School graduates who maintain an 8.0/12.0 GPA and display good citizenship.


Community Foundation Scholarships

Fifteen students are the 2004 recipients of The Community Foundation Scholarships:

  • Brittany Hale, a graduate of Southside High School, plans to study nursing at Ball State University. She is the
    daughter of Mike Hale and Michelle Flowers.
  • Elizabeth Hathaway, a graduate of Muncie Central High School, plans to study engineering at the University of Southern California. She is the daughter of Jeff and Jeanette Hathaway.
  • Danielle Hazelbaker, a graduate of Wapahani High School, plans to attend Hanover College. She is the daughter of Phil and Becky Hazelbaker.
  • Sara Huntzinger, a graduate of Southside High School, plans to study pre-dental hygiene at Ball State University. She is the daughter of Rex and Diana Smiley.
  • Kyle Johnson, a graduate of Southside High School, plans to study sports communications at Indiana University. He is the son of Roger and Micki Johnson.
  • Richard Ma, a graduate of Indiana Academy for Science, Math and Humanities, plans to study computer science and software engineering at Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology.
  • Karie Miller, a graduate of Yorktown High School, plans to study pharmacy at Purdue University. She is the daughter of Jeffery and Laura Miller.
  • Autumn Neal, a graduate of Yorktown High School, plans to study pre-medicine at Indiana University. She is the daughter of Sandra Neal and the late Dr. H. Allen Neal.
  • Andrea Oglesby, a graduate of Wapahani High School, plans to study math education at Ball State University. She is the daughter of Peggy Carter.
  • Chea Parton, a graduate of Wes-Del High School, plans to study biology at Purdue University. She is the daughter of Steve and Cheryl Schlenker and Chris and Laura Parton.
  • Claire Ranieri, a graduate of Cowan Jr.-Sr. High School, plans to study theatre and chemistry at Ball State University. She is the daughter of Paul and Lynn Ranieri.
  • Brian Watters, a graduate of Yorktown High School, plans to study pre-medicine at Ball State University. He is the son of Stephanie and Rapid Watters.
  • Rachael Whaley, a graduate of Burris Laboratory School, plans to study English at Maryville College. She is the daughter of Mitchell and Ammie Whaley.
  • Elizabeth Warrner, a graduate of Muncie Central High School, plans to study music education at Ball State University. She is the daughter of Robert and Janet Warrner.
  • Sarah Williams, a graduate of Southside High School, plans to study secondary education at Ball State University. She is the daughter of Daniel and Pamella Williams.

Scholarships are awarded to honor nominees of the Lilly Endowment Community Scholarship Program.
