2011 Scholarships

Sarah Adams Scholarship
Kylee Andora Lipscomb, a senior at Muncie Southside High School, is the 2011 recipient of the Sarah E. Adams Scholarship.

Awarded to a member of a Delaware County High School girls golf team who has displayed good citizenship and a positive attitude for life, this scholarship is for use while attending an accredited college or university in the State of Indiana.

Lipscomb, the daughter to Gary and Andora Lipscomb, plans to study marketing at Indiana University East.


Gary W. Addison Scholarship
Lindsey Irelan of Daleville Junior/Senior High School is the recipient of the Gary W. Addison Scholarship.

This scholarship is awarded to a graduating senior from Delaware County with a 3.0 G.P.A. or higher planning to major in K-12 education.  Consideration is given to academic ability, citizenship, community service, and extra-curricular activities.  This scholarship is designed for the student who has gone “above and beyond” his or her academic studies outside the classroom and has not received other major scholarship awards.

Irelan, the daughter of Doug and Karen Irelan, plans to study elementary education at Ball State University.

Michael Brodhead Scholarship
Tanner Hoots, a senior at Wapahani School, is the 2011 recipient of the Michael Brodhead Scholarship.

This scholarship is awarded to a Delaware County college-bound senior who has overcome a physical disability while achieving a high level of academics and participating in other activities outside the classroom.

Hoots plans to study accounting at Ball State University.  He is the son of Randy and Lori Hoots.


E.E. Burgess Scholarship
Ronald Harrington is the 2010 recipient of the E.A. & E.E. Burgess Scholarship. 

Harrington is a sophomore majoring in hospitality and food management.  He is a 2007 graduate of Muncie Central High School and the son of Sara Harrington.

The E.A. and E.E. Burgess Scholarship is awarded to a graduate of Muncie Central High School or Connersville Senior High School who is pursuing a degree in hospitality and food management, dietetics, dietetics technology or vocational family and consumer sciences education at Ball State University.  A minimum GPA of 2.0 is required.


Max V. and Nellie C. Creviston Scholarship
Shelby Browning is the 2011 recipient of the Max V. and Nellie C. Creviston Scholarship.

This four-year renewable scholarship is awarded to a graduate of Cowan High School who wishes to attend a post-high school institution.  Preference is given to a student entering the field of engineering.  This scholarship honors Max V. Creviston and Nellie Cathrine Creviston.  Eight of the Creviston’s nine children and many of their grandchildren graduated from Cowan High School.

Browning, the daughter of Tracie and Larry Browning, plans to study aquatic biology at Ball State University.


Delaware Community Schools Scholarship
Lindsey Renae Jeffers, Ashley Nicole Rawls, and Aubrey Smith have been named as 2011 recipients of the Delaware Community Schools Memorial Scholarships.

These scholarships are awarded to seniors at Delta High School who have given evidence of scholarship, diligence, goals, and citizenship conclusive to successful educational goals and productive leadership in the community.  The recipients may elect to attend any recognized institute/school of post-high school studies.

 

Jeffers is the daughter of Jennifer Jeffers and the late Michael Jeffers.  She plans to study nursing at Anderson University.


 

 

 

 

 

Rawls is the daughter of David R. Rawls, Jr. and Gina M. Rawls.  She plans to study elementary education and English as a second language at Johnson University.



 

 

Smith is the daughter of Joe and Marcia Smith.  She plans to study journalism and fashion merchandising at Ball State University.

 


Hurley C. and Fredine (Wynn) Goodall Scholarships
Maneatta Jefferson, Dianna Lott, and Juron Strong are recipients of the Hurley C. and Fredine (Wynn) Goodall Scholarships for the spring semester of the 2011-2012 academic year.

These scholarships, honoring the former state legislator and his wife, are awarded each year to minority students enrolled in the two-year associate program at Ivy Tech State College who demonstrate financial need. 

Jefferson is a single parent who is enrolled in the Criminal Justice program at the Muncie campus.  She plans to work with young people after graduation and benefits from Ivy Tech’s Life Steps program for academic success.

 

Lott is a non-traditional student who is new to Ivy Tech and plans to pursue a degree in Exercise Science.  Her family is an inspiration to her, and she hopes to use her education to help the community live a healthier life.

 

Strong is a graduate of Muncie Southside High School and a returning student at Ivy Tech.  He is committed to getting his degree in Business Administration and plans to go into business for himself someday.


Zach Greenwalt Scholarships
Jessica Rose Cecelia Allen and Stephanie A. Payne are the 2011 recipients of the Zach Greenwalt Scholarships.

These scholarships are awarded to graduates of Wes-Del High School in memory of Zach Greenwalt, a Wes-Del High School student who passed away in 2009.  Recipients must show academic ability as well as display positive character and good citizenship.

 

 

 

Allen, the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Thomas Allen, plans to study nursing at Ball State University.

 

 

 

Payne, the daughter of Ron and Sherry Payne, plans to study hospitality management at Indiana University-Purdue University Fort Wayne.

 

 


Michele Barnhart Hires Scholarship
Cassie Pavey is the 2011 recipient of the Michele Barnhart Hires Scholarship.

This scholarship is awarded to a graduate of Daleville Junior/Senior High School who plans to attend either a recognized Indiana post-high school educational facility (college, junior college, trade school, etc.) or Pepperdine University.  Applicants must have a B or C grade point average. 

Pavey, the daughter of Wayne and Victoria Pavey and Brenda Pavey, plans to study criminal justice at Kaplan College.


 Janice Paige Hughes Scholarships

Jason Scott Sloan is the 2011 recipient of the Janice Paige Hughes Scholarship.

Designed to recognize students majoring in education and planning a career in special education or the teaching of students with special needs, this scholarship is awarded to Delaware County residents in at least their third year of studies at a university in the State of Indiana.

Sloan, a graduate student at Ball State University, is majoring in special education.  He is the son of Doug and Carol Sloan and Beverly Hall and Bob Woodhouse.


Jon Hunter Scholarships 
The following students have been named as 2011 recipients of Jon Hunter Memorial Scholarships. The scholarship was established by the family of the late Jon Hunter and is awarded to graduates of Wes-Del High School.  Recipients must demonstrate love and dedication to their sport and possess high moral character.

 

 

Taylor Brown, the daughter of Rodney and Kim Brown, plans to study animal agribusiness at Purdue University.

 

 

 

Jacob A. Eiler, the son of Rodney A. and Sherry L. Eiler, plans to study accounting and finance at Anderson University. 

 

 

 

 

Haley Hamlin, the daughter of Jamie McCord and Brad Hamlin, plans to study biology and chemistry at the University of Indianapolis with the eventual goal of a Doctorate in Physical Therapy.

 



 

Christopher Shipley, the son of Scott and Linda Shipley, plans to study sports administration

 

 


J Scholarship
Austin Lewis McMillan is the 2011 recipient of the J Scholarship. 

McMillan is a senior majoring in entrepreneurship at Ball State University.  He is the son of Sandy McMillan and Gerald McMillan.

This scholarship is awarded to a student from a county high school in Delaware County who is interested in obtaining a business degree from the Ball State University School of Business.


Alice Miriam Kitselman Scholarship
Kendra Carr, a senior at Burris Laboratory School, is the 2011 recipient of the Alice Miriam Kitselman Scholarship.

This scholarship is awarded to a graduate of Burris Laboratory School who has shown the desire and ability to pursue a career in medicine or surgery.

Carr, the daughter of Brian and Rebecca Carr, plans to study human biology at Indiana University.


Lilly Endowment Community Scholarship
The following Delaware County seniors were selected to receive 2011 Lilly Endowment Community Scholarships.

Karsen Corn, a senior at Daleville Junior/Senior High School, plans to study pre-med and athletic training at Ball State University.  She is the daughter of Andrew and Kip Corn.  In addition to maintaining a 4.0 GPA, Karsen has been a class officer all four years of high school and has played on six varsity athletic teams. 

 

 

 

Aaron L. Fry, a senior at Delta High School, plans to study chemical engineering at Purdue University.  He is the son of Scott and Patricia Fry.  Aaron ranks first in his class, is an accomplished pianist, and has participated in school athletic teams and mentoring programs, and has worked as an Upwards Nazarene Basketball coach for four years. 

 

 

 

Shelby Gullion, a senior at Yorktown High School, plans to study English and business with minors in international relations and Spanish at Indiana University.  She is the daughter of Donald and Patricia Gullion.  In addition to ranking third in her class, Shelby is active in athletics, orchestra, the Delaware County PRIDE Team, student government, and is a representative on the Yorktown Town Council.  In lieu of the Lilly Endowment Community Scholarship, Shelby has accepted a prestigious Cox Research Scholarship at Indiana University. 

Karsen and Aaron will receive full tuition at the Indiana colleges of their choice and an $800 yearly stipend for required books and equipment.

In selecting Delaware County Lilly Endowment Community Scholars, consideration is given to student activities and achievements, community and civic service, academic ability and potential for leadership.  After the field of school nominees was narrowed to two, the finalists’ names were submitted to Independent Colleges of Indiana, Inc. (ICI) for the selection of the recipients. 

ICI is a nonprofit corporation that represents 31 regionally accredited degree granting, nonprofit, private colleges and universities in the state. 

The scholarships are a result of a statewide Lilly Endowment initiative to help Hoosier students reach higher levels of education.  Indiana ranks among the lowest states in the percentage of residents over the age of 25 with a bachelor’s degree.  There were 142 scholarships awarded statewide.


Carolyn A. Lucas Scholarship 
Katherine Vellenga is the 2011 recipient of the Carolyn A. Lucas Scholarship.

Awarded in memory of Carolyn A. Lucas, chemistry teacher at Yorktown High School for many years, this scholarship is awarded to an outstanding high school chemistry student at Yorktown High School who demonstrates good character and good citizenship.

Vellenga, the daughter of James Vellenga and Lisa Vellenga, plans to study English education and German at Ball State University.


Grace Maring Scholarship
Lindsay Renee Roscoe is the 2011 recipient of the Grace Maring Scholarship. Lindsay plans to study movement and sport sciences at Purdue University.  She is the daughter of Rick and Pam Roscoe.

 

This scholarship is awarded to a Wapahani High School student residing in Perry Township. Recipients may elect to attend any recognized post-high school institution.


McDonald's Restaurants of Delaware and Madison Counties Scholarships
The Community Foundation of Muncie & Delaware County, Inc., is proud to announce the 2011 recipients of the McDonalds Restaurants of Delaware and Madison Counties Scholarships.

Jaimie Barker, a graduate of Delta High School, plans to study social work at Ivy Tech.  She is the daughter of Susan Stephenson.

Jenna Barker, a sophomore at Ivy Tech, is studying business management.  She is the daughter of Susan Stephenson.

Siobhan Gillespie, a graduate of Anderson High School, is studying dental hygiene at Ivy Tech.  She is the daughter of Cindy and Richard Forsythe.

Jeremy McKnight, a sophomore at Purdue College of Technology in Anderson, is studying computer science.  He is the son of Brooki McKnight and Clayton McKnight.

 

Brian Schink, a graduate of Delta High School, plans to study golf management at Trine University.  He is the son of Phil and Debbie Schink.

 

 

Awarded from the Robert and Beverly Terhune Fund, these scholarships are given to employees of the Terhune McDonald’s restaurants in Delaware or Madison Counties.


Robert and Wanda McKibben Scholarship
Tess Schlatter is the recipient of the Robert and Wanda McKibben Scholarship.

This scholarship is awarded to graduating seniors from Yorktown High School planning to attend a four year private or public Indiana institution to obtain a baccalaureate degree.  Recipients must have a minimum GPA of 3.0, demonstrate good citizenship, and be a good person who is “willing to try.”  Consideration is given to financial need, participation and leadership in school activities, involvement in community service activities, and involvement on Yorktown High School athletic teams. Preference is given to a 1st generation college student.

Schlatter, the daughter of Steve and Susan Schlatter, plans to study physical therapy at Indiana University.


Dr. William J. McNabney and Thelma V. McNabney Memorial Scholarship
Jacob A. Eiler, a graduate of Wes-Del High School, is the 2011 recipient of the Dr. William J. McNabney and Thelma V. McNabney Memorial Scholarship.  Eiler, the son of Rodney A. and Sherri L. Eiler, plans to study accounting and finance at Anderson University.

This scholarship is awarded to a Delaware County college-bound senior and provides $2,500 per year for four years of undergraduate study.  In selecting the recipient, consideration is given to moral character, academic ability, extracurricular activities, civic responsibility, and the potential for leadership and future success.


Muncie Southside Spirit of '71 Scholarship
Ethan Evans is the first annual recipient of the Muncie Southside High School Spirit of ‘71 Scholarship.

The Muncie Southside High School Class of 1971 recognizes the importance of higher education and the cost to achieve it.  With this in mind, the Class of 1971 has created this award for a deserving Southside graduating senior to pursue his/her dream of furthering their education.  This first scholarship is being awarded to celebrate the 40th anniversary of the Class of 1971.  Recipients must rank in the top 20% of the class; plan to attend an accredited college, university, or technical college in Indiana; have participated in extra-curricular activities or held a job outside of school and demonstrated good citizenship.

Evans plans to study mathematics education at Taylor University.  He is the son of Jim and Kim Evans.


Murray's Jewelers Scholarship
Rachel Scott is the recipient of the Murray’s Jewelers Scholarship.

Recognizing the value of higher education in the community, the Murray family and Murray’s Jewelers celebrated the store’s 125th anniversary in 2010 by establishing the Murray’s Jewelers Scholarship Fund.  This scholarship is awarded to a graduating senior from Delaware County who maintains at least a 3.0 grade point average and plans to study fine arts or business at a regionally accredited college or university in the State of Indiana. 

Scott, a senior at Delta High School, plans to study art at Ball State University.  She is the daughter of Bob and Julie Scott.


Donald Lee Patton Memorial Scholarship
Keelan Rushing is the 2011 recipient of the Donald Lee Patton Memorial Scholarship.  

 

In honor of five-time Indiana State Champion Wrestling Coach and former Delta High School Athletic Director Donald Patton, this scholarship is awarded to members of a high school wrestling team who demonstrates love for wrestling and a spirit of winning.  To be eligible, students must have at least two years of wrestling involvement at the high school level.

Rushing, a senior at Homestead High School, plans to study engineering and biblical studies at Bethel College.  He is the son of Troy and Kim Rushing.


Arthur D. and Josephine M. Robling Scholarships
The following students have been named as recipients of Arthur D. and Josephine M. Robling Scholarships.  Recipients must be residents of Delaware County, be of good moral character and display good citizenship, and must have maintained at least a 2.5 cumulative grade point average in high school.

 

Erica Danae Bennett, a graduate of Daleville Junior/Senior High School, plans to study pharmacy at Purdue University.  She is the daughter of Lora Bennett and Randy Bennett.

 

 

 

Susanna Bowen, a graduate of The Indiana Academy for Science, Mathematics, and Humanities, plans to study computer science at Carnegie Mellon University. She is the daughter of Richard and Ruth Bowen.

 

 

 

Taylor Davis, a graduate of Delta High School, plans to study mechanical engineering at Trine University.  He is the son of Tom Davis and Lisa Davis.

 

 


Valeri Lemons, a graduate of Wes-Del High School, plans to study medical technology at Ball State University.  She is the daughter of Joe and Lesli Lemons.

 

 

 

 

Kiah Murray, a graduate of Yorktown High School, plans to study photojournalism at Wittenberg University.

 

 

 

 

Harrison Alexander Nancarrow, a graduate of Burris Laboratory School, plans to attend Ball State University.  He is the son of Gerald Nancarrow and Serena Nancarrow.

 

 

 

 

Spencer Day Osborn, a graduate of Muncie Central High School, plans to study elementary education and missions at Taylor University.  He is the son of Greg and Carla Osborn.

 

 

 

Garrett Smith, a graduate of Cowan Junior/Senior High School, plans to study political science at Ball State University.  He is the son of Brien Smith and Jennifer Smith.

 

 

Jason R. Toomey, a graduate of Wapahani High School, plans to study computer science at Ball State University.  He is the son of Randall and Jeanne Toomey.

 

 

 

Tyler Watterson, a graduate of Muncie Southside High Schools, plans to computer and information technology at Purdue University.  He is the son of Jane Watterson.

 

 

 

Karmen Willis, a graduate of Heritage Hall Christian School, plans to study music at Southeastern Freewill Baptist College.  She is the daughter of Kim Hammons.

 

 


Rozelle-Camplin Scholarships
Lindsey Irelan and Chelsea Danielle McMullen are the 2011 recipients of the Rozelle-Camplin Scholarships.

 

 

 

Irelan, the daughter of Doug and Karen Irelan, plans to study elementary education at Ball State University.

 

 

 

 

McMullen, the daughter of Jeffrey McMullen, plans to study nursing at Indiana University.

 

 

These scholarships are awarded to graduates of Daleville High School.  Selection is based on scholarship, community service, citizenship and participation in school activities.


George and Nelda Van Laningham Scholarship


Burris Class of 1949 Angie Wilson Scholarship
Rachel Rector, a senior at Burris Laboratory School, is the 2011 recipient of the Burris Class of 1949 Angie Wilson Scholarship.

Designed to recognize students planning a career in teaching, this scholarship is awarded in memory of Angie Wilson, a favorite teacher of the Burris Class of 1949. 

Rector, the son of Bob and Leann Rector, plans to study elementary education and missions at Calvin College.


Wingate Scholarship
Marie T. Jones is the 2011 recipient of the Wilfred W. Wingate Scholarship.

This scholarship is awarded to a junior or senior nursing student at Ball State University.  Recipients must have graduated from a Delaware County High School and preference is given to those students who intend to practice their profession in Delaware County.

Jones, a graduate of Muncie Central High School, is a junior studying nursing at Ball State University.


Yorktown Lions Club, Inc. Scholarships
Meredith Kinch, Evelyn Kratz, and Audrey Rees are the 2011 recipients of the Yorktown Lions Club, Inc. Scholarships.

These scholarships are awarded to Yorktown High School graduates who maintain an 8.0/12.0 GPA and display good citizenship.


Kinch plans to study human biology (pre-dentistry) and minor in German at Indian University.  She is the daughter of Steven and Annaliese Kinch.

 

 

 

 

Kratz plans to study finance at Indiana University.  She is the daughter of Kenneth and Susan Kratz.

 

 

 

 

Rees plans to study speech pathology at Ball State University.  She is the daughter of Steve Rees and Tena Rees.

 

 


The Community Foundation Scholarships
As Lilly Endowment Community Scholarship nominees, each student below received a $500 scholarship from The Community Foundation in recognition of his/her outstanding achievements. Consideration was given to student activities and achievements, community and civic service, academic ability and potential for leadership.




  • Taryn Beckman of Muncie Southside High School plans to study secondary education at Ball State University.  She is the daughter of Richard and Linda Beckman.

 

 



  • Susanna Bowen of the Indiana Academy for Science, Mathematics and Humanities plans to study computer science at Carnegie Mellon University.  She is the daughter of Richard and Ruth Bowen.

 

 





  • Shelby Browning of Cowan Junior/Senior High School plans to study aquatic biology at Ball State University.  She is the daughter of Tracie and Larry Browning.

 

 

  • Jordan Clohessy of Muncie Central High School plans to study music technology at Ball State University.  He is the son of Mike and Carole Clohessy.

 

 

 


  • Alexander Elias of Yorktown High School plans to study chemistry at Indiana University.  He is the son of Richard Elias and Susan Elias.

 

 

 

  • Joseph S. Eskew of Yorktown High School plans to study chemistry/pre-med at Indiana University.  He is the son of Jill Moores and Dr. Gregory Eskew.

 

 

 

  • Ethan Evans of Muncie Southside High School plans to study mathematics education at Taylor University.  He is the son of Jim and Kim Evans.

 

 

 

 

  • Alice Grasso of Delta High School plans to study biochemistry at Purdue University.  She is the daughter of David and Lisa Grasso.

 

 

 

  • Shelby Gullion of Yorktown High School plans to study English and business with minors in international relations and Spanish at Indiana University.  She is the daughter of Donald and Patricia Gullion.

 

 

 

 

  • Monling Ho of Muncie Central High School plans to study pre-medicine at Indiana University.  He is the son of Taiping Ho and Chunshan Ho.

 

 

  • Tanner Hoots of Wapahani High School plans to study accounting at Ball State University.  He is the son of Randy and Lori Hoots.

 

 

 

  • Valeri Lemons of Wes-Del High School plans to attend Ball State University.  She is the daughter of Joe and Lesli Lemons.

 

 

 

  • Jennifer Lewis of Muncie Southside High School plans to study chemistry at the University of Indianapolis.  She is the daughter of Natalia Lewis and Eric Lewis.

 

 

 

  • Connor McGee of Burris Laboratory School plans to study aeronautical or astronautical engineering at the U.S. Air Force Academy.  He is the son of Jay and Julie McGee.

 

 

 

  • Velena Mae Meade of Wapahani High School plans to study pre-pharmacy at Butler University.  She is the daughter of Veldon and Catherine Meade.

 

 

 

  • Molly Rawson of Muncie Central High School plans to study creative writing at the University of Evansville.  She is the daughter of Greg and Amy Rawson.

 

 

 

 

  • Monica Slabaugh of Muncie Central High School plans to study arts and humanities at Indiana University.  She is the daughter of Seth and Katie Slabaugh.

 

 

  • Victoria Weisenberger of Delta High School plans to study electrical engineering at Trine University.  She is the daughter of Larry and Leslie Weisenberger.

 

 


The Community Foundation 25th Anniversary Scholarship
